HILTON BLASTS NEWSOM’S CLIMATE EXTREMISM, OFFERS COMMON SENSE ENERGY PLAN TO AVOID DEMOCRAT $9 GAS IN 2026, DELIVER $3 GAS

SACRAMENTO, CA — Working-class Californians with long commutes and small businesses with tight margins are hit the hardest by high gas prices — and thanks to Democrat policies, California has the highest gas prices in America, by far. It doesn’t have to be this way: gubernatorial candidate Steve Hilton today lays out a new plan to protect our environment without the crushing burden on working-class families and small businesses from ever-rising gas prices driven by extreme and unnecessary ‘climate’ regulations. Hilton unveiled a common-sense plan to cut gas prices, restore energy affordability, and stop the economic squeeze on working families.

“Working families and small businesses are getting crushed at the pump as a direct result of Democrat policies. Gavin Newsom and the Democrats have put extreme ‘climate’ ideology ahead of practical, common-sense policies to help Californians, and working people are paying the price. While they wage war on your wallet, I’ve got a positive, practical plan to avoid the pain and madness of $9 gas under the Democrats and move us towards the levels seen in the rest of the country, even in states without the plentiful oil and gas reserves we have here in California.”

“Gas in California is already around $5 a gallon — higher than Hawaii, even though we sit on some of the richest oil reserves in the country. Why? Because of extreme ‘climate’ regulations driving costs up and refineries out, along with punishing state taxes. If we stay on the Democrat path, experts say we’re headed for $9 gas. That’s outrageous and completely unacceptable. As governor, I will protect our environment and lower costs for working families and small businesses. My plan will include:

  • Ending the wildly unrealistic and punishingly costly 2045 ‘net zero’ target, which is driving much of the destructive and incoherent Democrat energy policy
  • Repealing the counter-productive and costly Low Carbon Fuel Standard
  • Ending the bureaucratic ‘stealth tax’ farce of the cap-and-trade ‘system’
  • Cutting extreme environmental and unnecessary mandates on refineries
  • Ending our dangerous dependence on foreign oil
  • Reducing the state gas tax and focusing its proceeds on transportation investment that actually helps working families and small businesses

“Taken together, these measures will bring California gas prices closer to $3 a gallon, not $5, not $9. The starting point is to accept, honestly, that Democrat ‘climate’ extremism is the main driver of California’s affordability crisis. The entire edifice of the Democrat ‘climate’ regulatory apparatus must be dismantled and replaced with a coherent energy policy that protects our environment without crushing families and small businesses, and driving wealth creation out of our state. Enough destructive ideology: it’s time for change, for positive, pragmatic policy. California can be green and Golden Again, and as governor, that’s what I will deliver.”
